The Syllabus

Welcome Friends, Students, Colleagues, and Accidental Tourists.

Welcome Indeed! You have entered my ever changing Home Away From John Jay, where the guests are always wanted. Here you will find many things to amuse and enlighten.

The Topics listed at left are only the tip of the iceberg, and more will be added as I think of them, or as you request them.

Did you forget how your grades are calculated, or that food is not permitted in class? Check out the on-line syllabus; there's always a copy handy. Couldn't get enough of me in just 80 minutes, or maybe you were forcibly taken to Puerto Rico against your will on a day you were just aching to hear my lecture on Molecular Geometry? Well now you can relive the experience on the Class Notes page; currently organized by topic, but soon to be organized by date. Not quite sure how that cool demo or lab fits into the lesson? Jump to those pages - while not as visually stimulating as the in-class versions, they're still a useful sidebar.

There's also a Discussion Forum for posting chemistry related material, whether it's a simple question ("I didn't write down the homework assignment, does anybody have it?"), interesting information ("I just read this article about a new polymer they can actually GROW inside of vegetables!"), or an outcry for help ("Does ANYBODY understand Molecular Geometry?!?"). Sometimes I will answer questions there, sometimes the responses may come from other students; it's just one more way we can all interact.

Check out the weekly quote page for words of encouragement, mirth, or just something to think about. There's a guestbook where you can let me know what you think of the site, and suggest improvements ("This place is GREAT, but why do you keep talking about Molecular Geometry?"). And what webpage would be complete without a page o'links to other Chemistry Resources?

I hope you enjoy your visit to the Virtual Chemistry Classroom, and please come back often; I need the counter hits, er, um, I mean you can NEVER get too much Chemistry...

It was finally uploaded in "mostly operational" form on March 29, 1998.
